The Coffee Quality Institute (CQI) owns the Q-System of evaluating specialty coffee quality, and calibration is required of those with a license to grade coffee to Q standards. Calibration session is NOT for new learners or for anyone who has never been a Q Grader. For those who have let their Q Grader status expire for longer than 6 months, please contact CQI directly for steps to take to renew based on COVID-19 issues.

Functionally, though, when Q Graders are not cupping frequently, and their taste sensitivity and attribute scoring become out of alignment for the quality of coffees they are presented compared to fellow cuppers, calibration is necessary. Before testing, we will provide one calibration activity to reestablish the parameters of how to identify various quality levels in coffee, ranging from outstanding to very good (specialty grade), and down to commercial grade coffees.

Due to the emergence of a new, agressive strain of COVID, there will be at least 1 table at this event dedicated to the modified protocol, for anyone with health concerns. If more than 1 table need this consideration, then both tables will be modified. I promise-- it won't be clunky or uncomfortable. At Ally we've created a good system that people have really liked.
